Filibuster - Republicans?

Here we go again. In 2022 Democrats controlled the Senate, and they wanted to eliminate the filibuster so those pesky Republicans could no longer block the wonderful changes Democrats wanted to impose on America. Fortunately, we still had two Democrats, Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema, who blocked that disastrous change. The bad news is both of them are now gone. The good news is that the Democrats no longer control the Senate. Enter Republicans, who correctly opposed the Democrat attempt to eliminate the filibuster in 2022. Many Republicans, however, now seem to favor eliminating the filibuster, but only for appropriations issues. If they succeed, they may break the deadlock on the government shutdown, but they will start down a very slippery slope because they will have set an important precedent. I could easily see Democrats, the next time they are in control of the Senate, voting for exceptions to the filibuster for any number of unilateral Democratic initiatives. Hopefully, enough Republicans see watering down the filibuster threatens one of the few levers the minority party still has to constrain the excesses of the majority party and protect America from the "wonderfulness" of both sides. Hopefully, enough Republicans recognize the danger.
