Gerrymandering

It seems that we are facing yet another "threat to democracy". This time it comes as Texas takes the obnoxious practice of gerrymandering to a whole new level. Of course, gerrymandering has been around for a very long time and both parties have become experts in executing this process and thereby stealing elections away from the voting public. As a result, precious few House seats are ever taken out of their Democratic and Republican monopoly owners' hands. The bad news for Democrats is that if this escalation proceeds, they will lose the battle because they have actually been more effective in gerrymandering their states than the Republicans have been. A better way to serve the country would be to instead take the high road. That is, point out the "threat to democracy" that gerrymandering is, in and of itself, and lead an effort to eliminate gerrymandering altogether. It would be a difficult task to do so and it would need to be a state-by-state effort, but Democrats would be seen in a very positive light by the vast majority of Americans who see gerrymandering for what it is. That is, one of the few real "threats to democracy".
